Volvo Penta and sustainability
Sustainability is not only about reducing our climate footprint. It’s bigger than that. It’s also about how we handle valuable resources and how we treat each other as people. But most importantly, it’s about actions, not words. Actions that make a real difference for our customers, our partners and suppliers, our employees and society at large as we work together towards a better future on land and at sea.
HVO compatible diesel engines
Since 2016, all Volvo Penta diesel engines have been able to run safely and efficiently on HVO (hydro-treated vegetable oil) – a renewable, paraffinic fuel produced from either vegetable or animal sources. We’ve been testing and measuring the benefits of HVO for more than a decade.Suitable for both marine and industrial power systems, HVO can reduce fossil CO2 emissions by 90%, depending on the feedstock. As interest in alternative fuels increases, we have the knowledge, experience and – and the range – to help you make the switch to a more sustainable way forward.
The benefits of HVOOur aim
At Volvo Penta, we want to lead the way when it comes to sustainable power solutions. So we will continue innovating to improve performance and reduce climate impact, while inspiring others to do the same. We will further strengthen our commitment to electrification and alternative fuels – testing, researching and developing sustainable new ways to drive our industry forward. We will strive for climate neutral products, solutions and operations – from sourcing to parts and service. Safety, as always, will remain a top priority both for the people who buy our products and the people who make them. And when it comes to our partners and suppliers, we aim to work with people who are as committed as we are to helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. This is what sustainable leadership means to us.
